Konpa, kompa, compas: finding your way into the music

A name is a starting point

A new listener may arrive after searching for Haitian konpa music, kompa songs or compas from Haiti. Soleil Haiti uses these familiar discovery terms naturally, while keeping each release title as supplied by SoleyHayti. Search spelling is useful for finding music; it is not a measure of how deeply someone belongs to its culture.

When a title contains Ayiti, Haiti or Hayti, take time to read it as part of the creative work. Different names may carry artistic, historical or personal meaning. We preserve the title instead of flattening it into a search phrase.

Find the artist, then the release

Start from the official Spotify artist or YouTube channel linked on this site. The moving ribbon opens verified Spotify releases directly. The wider library also preserves listening destinations supplied with the original collection, including YouTube features.

A release page gives you context before you leave for the streaming service. A channel link and an album link serve different purposes, so they are labelled separately. There is no need to guess whether a button will open a full collection or an artist profile.

Share a useful introduction

If a friend asks for new Haitian music, send one official release and a short explanation of why you chose it. A personal sentence about a lyric or a feeling does more for discovery than a long string of unrelated tags.

For your own notes, useful phrases include Haitian Kreyòl lyrics, SoleyHayti albums and Haitian music and culture. Keep them connected to what you actually heard. Discovery works best when the invitation is specific and the listening experience delivers on it.

At Soleil Haiti, each discovery term leads back to the music and the people whose voices give it meaning.
