Haiti and Central Africa: room for a new dialogue

An invitation to exchange songs and stories while keeping cultural differences visible.

A bridge is something people build

SoleyHayti’s supplied vision includes creative conversations with Central Africa. Soleil Haiti turns that idea into an open invitation: bring a listening question, a language perspective or an idea for a shared cultural session. A bridge begins with the people willing to build it.

Gabon is one of the places named in the project’s wider cultural interests. That interest does not establish a historical musical connection, an existing partnership or a shared tradition across the entire region.

Give the exchange a clear shape

An organiser might propose a short online listening circle. A teacher might pair a supplied Kreyòl excerpt with a discussion about home and collective memory. An artist might ask how a particular theme could be approached in another language. Each idea has a different purpose and should be described honestly.

Start with a small scope, clear permission and credit for every contribution. Keep the original work accessible. If a translation or response is created, identify who made it and whether the artist has reviewed it.

Leave space for new understanding

A good exchange can reveal differences as readily as similarities. That is part of its value. Let participants describe their own experience instead of fitting every story into a single narrative about Africa or Haiti.

Send proposals to the project email with the subject, location, language and intended audience. The website can introduce the collection; any actual collaboration, licensing or event arrangement needs a direct conversation with the project.

Soleil Haiti welcomes carefully described ideas that connect listeners in Haiti, Gabon and other Central African communities.
